Bethany, Alex, Mom, Mike, and I drove over to Sterling, NY for the Renaissance Festival. Sterling is about 30 minutes north of Syracuse and is home to this summer festival. A permanent medieval town is build in a small forest surrounded by huge fields (for parking). The Festival runs every weekend through the Summer season. Time period actors populate this small town and authentic artisans work in the small shops selling everything from hand-blown glass to full suits of field plate armor. There's plenty of shows to see, the most popular being the knight's jousting tournament.

This is the knight that our side was rooting for during the tournament. |
Here's a picture of our knight in action. They had just completed their first pass. |
Here's an action shot. The fragments of each lance can be seen flying through the air and impaling innocent bystanders. Seriously! Look harder! |
The knights take to the ground (i.e. knocked to the ground) for some hand-to-hand combat. |

Our knight takes a breather and poses for his loyal fans. |
Two prominent members of the local aristocracy, Lord James with his concubine, the beautiful Lady Bethany. |
Alex and I take a moment to appreciate the metalsmith's fine artistry. |
